Leeds alt-pop trio Polo have released their debut album A Place Between States. Marking the release the band have released a stunning live video for the title track, filmed at their hometown studio The Nave.
‘A Place Between States’ is a beautifully sparse moment on the wide-reaching record. The song uses delicate piano and synths for the honestly exposed themes of self-acceptance.
Regarding the song and the video singer Kat McHugh says, “‘A Place Between States’ is about having your mind opened up to a new feeling (or place) and taking comfort in its existence. It’s sort of about losing an idea of ‘yourself’ to discover yourself. The song is really special to me as it follows an important journey of self- discovery and feeling safe and affirmed.”
“It was really cool to film this in one continuous live take – it meant everyone in the room was in the world of the song, all at once. There was certain energy that everyone shared which is all you could want from a shoot.”
A Place Between States finds Polo seamlessly traversing the electronic pop sphere and has been produced with Gethin Pearson (Charli XCX, Orla Gartland, Crystal Fighters). The album features previously released singles including the poignant down-tempo ‘A Sobering Thought’, the pulsating R&B tinged ‘Hologram’ and the hypnotic dancefloor focused ‘Clublight’.
Speaking about the album synth/keys player Luke Lount says, “The album has given us the breathing space to explore ideas and concepts we’ve not yet been able to when releasing singles; we finally have space to be ourselves as a band without limitations. Every band is defined by their first album; this is us establishing who we are.”
In further celebration for their debut album release Polo have announced a four-date headline tour for February 2022. Tickets are on sale now via the band’s website here. Ahead of this Polo have been invited to perform a live session for BBC Introducing and will be performing tracks from the album live on air on October 30th.
