MIN t released her third album, Before The After, today, May 8. The album is the work of Martyna Kubicz, a Polish-born, Berlin-based singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and mix engineer. Her musical journey began with classical piano lessons at age seven, followed by 12 years at a music school in Wrocław. At 16, she started writing songs and playing in local bands as she discovered jazz, pop, soul, and electronic music. She began producing music at 18, using Ableton as her main tool, and later graduated from Berklee College of Music in Valencia on a scholarship. MIN t describes her music as genreless, blending electronic, pop, and R’nB, and drawing inspiration from artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Charli XCX, D’Angelo, FKA twigs, and Aretha Franklin.
The title track, ‘Before The After,’ sets the tone for the album with its energetic drum and bass-inspired percussion, bold bassline, and lively chorus vocals. Swelling synths add an uncertain mood that draws listeners into the rest of the record. The singles ‘Hope’ and ‘Last Day’—with ‘Hope’ also featuring a music video—were released earlier as strong introductions. ‘Hope,’ ‘Last Day,’ and ‘Water’ take a more vulnerable approach, combining emotional songwriting with UK-garage beats. ‘Digital Flower’ highlights her sharper production style with glitchy, textured sounds, while ‘Hangover’ brings in reggaeton rhythms, showing how easily she moves between genres.
MIN t shared: “Before the After tells the story of a tainted world where hope is becoming harder and harder to find. Each song strips away another layer of my belief in a better tomorrow. I explore themes of apocalypse, self-destruction, and toxic relationships, as reality itself begins to fall apart. Yet, on the ruins of that reality, I still see a chance to reclaim my agency. For me, becoming aware of my own mistakes is the first step toward change, and transformation can ultimately lead to regaining control over my own life. Sonically, the album is a fusion of bass music and R&B, where I experiment with different styles and textures, pushing boundaries while staying emotionally raw and honest.”
