KARMACODA are the soulful San Franciscan trio capturing hearts with their emotively charged sound. Their album You and I was released on July 26, 2024 via the Sola Musa Music imprint. With a timeless discography and multiple awards, KARMACODA has explored electronica, chill, trip-hop, R&B, rock, and dream pop in their twenty year career. Revered for their ever-evolving sound, and ability to seamlessly blend R&B and jazz lounge, the trio draw comparisons to Adele, Lana Del Rey and ofcourse Massive Attack.
Karmacoda consists of Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett aka B. (vocals and producer), and Japanese-American multi-instrumentalist Eric Matsuno (bass and unique elements). They’ve received support from acclaimed publications such as CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Magazine and NOTION to name few.
In the focus track ‘You and I’, Jessica’s rich, sultry voice takes center stage. The instrumental arrangement is enthralling, with the piano’s melody beautifully intertwining with the lush vocals. The track is a wonderful culmination of jazz and R&B, and outlines the story of a toxic relationship where two people just can’t get enough of each other, and although there’s love it’s filled with challenging highs and lows.
In the album, Jessica bears her soul with an unparalleled level of vulnerability and honesty. You and I touches on themes of self-love and acceptance, empowerment, heartbreak, courage and the romance of friendship. It’s filled with stories of trials and tribulations that come with human connection, growth and transformation. The production is pristine, with beautifully layered compositions throughout, working symbiotically with Jessica’s commanding vocals and storytelling ability.
