The festive season is a time to spend quality time with loved ones, a time to shop for gifts, decorate the house, and eat good food. But it is also a time of longing for this year’s lonesome. To them, the usual Christmas jingles are likely annoying reminders of the things they are missing. To this end, songwriter Cimo Fränkel has written a record that seems to say, “hold on, let’s look at this from another perspective”.

With so many happy songs playing in shopping malls, Fränkel’s Christmas record (out via Cimo Fränkel / 100th Meridian Music / AWAL) is a change of pace. Titled ‘This Christmas’, it is optimistic in a melancholy sort of way. Intent on consoling rather than celebrating, the song is a much-needed hug for the brokenhearted. “My single ‘This Christmas’ is a song of comfort for people who are possibly hurting more than they are celebrating this special time of the year,” he says.
