Giora, the London-based multi-disciplinary artist known for their work as singer, songwriter, producer, performer, creative director and sound artist, released the FREEWAY EP on May 1 via their label Holypop. Their musical path began with classical piano, voice and music theory training in North London during childhood, followed by time in a teen band. A move to New York brought Juilliard orchestral composition studies, which supported their self-taught electronic production skills and 2020 debut release. The 2023 album It’s So Quiet But I Hear You, drew strong support from CLASH Magazine, while Giora has received attention from NOTION and Wonderland Magazine. Live highlights include supporting Isabella Lovestory, Varg, Babynymph, Elisabeth Elektra, Puce Mary, Kelora and Felix Lee, plus appearances at CREEPY TEEPEE Festival in the Czech Republic, KWIA in Berlin, Bike Jesus in Prague and London venues such as Gossamer Fog, Spanners, The Divine and The Glory. Giora has also created sound installations for exhibitions at Rich Mix and Stanley Arts and operates the Holypop label that spotlights live events that platform queer experimental artists from the UK and Europe.

The FREEWAY EP moves through experimental pop styles to examine existentialism, liberation, personal power and truth, making it one of Giora’s most candid projects yet and a sure hit for fans of Depeche Mode, SOPHIE and Charli XCX. Produced and mixed by Giora and Czech producer Oliver Torr (who has collaborated with Sunnbrella, Palmistry and Evita Manji), and mastered by Canadian film and video game composer Zac Tiessen, the record kicks off with the title track’s syncopated drums, psychedelic synths and hefty bassline. It then rolls into ‘EARTHQUAKE’’s rave synths and expansive design for a self-acceptance anthem, the vulnerable ‘POWER CANDY’ with its synth array, breakbeat chorus and guitar motif, the stripped-back ‘GOD’S GIFT’, the central ‘LONG LIVE MUSIC’ that uses 80s synths, commanding drums and hypnotic melody to convey a personal path to freedom through music, and the finale ‘IN THE END’ with its breakbeats, experimental electronica and trance for an unapologetic take on stepping outside the binary.

Giora had this to say: “This EP is a statement piece about freedom, truth and love. The freeway is a promise of openness, travel, connection. It is an expression of human nature. Freedom is yours to build not at the expense of anyone or anything else. The free way is acceptance, transformation and the ability to be exactly as you please…staying real and holding your own power and doing it with love.
