Hi Cyazon, how are you? Congrats on the release of ‘My Way Out’!
Doing well! Thank you!
What was the inspiration behind ‘My Way Out’, and how did the collaboration with Gracie Van Brunt come about?
The main inspiration behind ‘My Way Out’ was from listening to the track ‘Black Church’ by Dimension. I wanted to create a similar atmosphere to that song, but in my own way. My team pitched the song to a variety of vocalists and Gracie’s vocals seemed to be the right fit for the song.
How does it feel to kick off 2025 with a release through Bassrush Records as part of their The Prophecy 11 compilation?
Feels great! I’m grateful that our song is the first on the compilation album.
Can you walk us through your creative process for crafting the track? What were the key elements you focused on?
First, I focused on creating the intro and the main melody for the track. I then worked on the chorus/drop creating the main basses. Later, I focused on making the main drums the best they can be, and I also added extra melodic, atmospheric elements to fill the space. The key elements I focused on were the synths, basses, and drums.
The track features uplifting vocals and atmospheric layers—how did you work with Gracie Van Brunt to bring these elements to life?
Gracie provided all of the vocal stems. I accentuated the vocals by mixing the vocals accordingly and also adding vocal chops throughout too.
Drum & Bass plays a central role in ‘My Way Out’. How do you approach blending your signature sound with the dynamic energy of the genre?
I think adding the cinematic/80s-style synths with my signature sound while blending in the modern sound of Drum & Bass with the drums and basses helped make the track stand out.
What challenges did you face while producing this track, and how did you overcome them?
The main challenge I faced was improving the production of the track. There came a point where I decided to bring on a songwriter to help add in extra production elements as well as make the track feel more polished and cohesive.
The track builds tension through breakdowns and delivers powerful drops—how do you structure your tracks to keep listeners engaged from start to finish?
Structuring this track in particular was all about creating tension and pull throughout the breakdowns and drops. This was done by adding transitional effects, filtering the melodic synth elements, and adding in layered basses throughout the drop to create the tension and pull.
How does ‘My Way Out’ reflect your growth and evolution as a producer over the past year?
I think ‘My Way Out’ really shows my growth with learning how to produce certain elements within the Drum & Bass genre.
What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from ‘My Way Out’?
Mainly I hope listeners get a feeling of euphoria while also feeling energized too while listening to ‘My Way Out’.
Looking ahead, how does this release set the tone for the rest of your plans in 2025? Can fans expect more Drum & Bass tracks or other surprises?
This release helps create consistency with my release schedule. No new Drum & Bass tracks planned as of now. I’m releasing the third single from my EP next month in February. I will also be releasing my EP in March.
