August 1, 2025, marked the arrival of Shizo van de Sunflower’s Elektro Punk EP, a gritty milestone from Daniel Blum, who’s been a force in electronic music since the ’80s. This year alone, he’s dropped The Beauty of Acid, a nod to ’90s acid techno, and Lost Love Pressure, a June release that turns personal lows into a high-energy anthem. July’s The Sound of Überübermorgenland kept the streak alive, and now this EP—out on Bandcamp, Beatport, and Deezer—pushes his sound further. Blum’s career is a masterclass in staying relevant, mixing retro influences with production that feels right now.

The EP’s four tracks meld techno’s drive with punk’s snarl, taking cues from DAF’s playbook. ‘Das Mikrofon’ gives us a pleasant surprise with Kristina Sop’s soprano sample layered over pounding EBM beats, and ’Ich war mal Punk’ cuts deeper, calling out the punk sellout with biting German vocals and a rhythm that doesn’t quit. The closer, ‘Herz aus Stein’, goes instrumental, channeling the EP’s raw energy into a techno trance that sticks with you. It’s a tight, dynamic package built to move bodies and spark thoughts.

Shizo van de Sunflower had this to say: “I was inspired by the raw sounds of DAF’s pioneering era and created four tracks that oscillate between anger, irony and pure dance fever. German lyrics, no compromises.” The Elektro Punk EP is an expression of Blum’s ability to keep evolving, making waves in the electro-punk scene with every beat.
